Student Resumes
This one goes out to my Seniors - the ones at Patuxent High School, the ones I know in my life (Thomas!) and the ones who are ready to get this part of their journey to higher education checked off the list! Don't sweat the format of your student/scholarship resume - use a straightforward template (model) that makes it easy on the reader to see what you have been up to.
What you do want to put attention and time into is making sure you have included valuable and important ways that you spent your time and energy. Things that would help the reader know what you have experienced or been recognized for.
Be sure that after you do a draft, the items you include make sense chronologically. If you have a hard time remembering freshman, sophomore or junior year events, ask your parents to pull out things that they may have saved for just such a moment since they want you to be as genuine AND as accomplished as possible.
This is the point in my post where I emphasize QUALITY and AUTHENTICITY. Only really what is you is what you are after, not padding and half-hearted commitments. Harsh words but extremely important. Your page may be kinda stark but remember, you are just at the beginning of your resume life so don't feel discouraged.
Let the thing age a day or two and more ideas or memories may come out of the cobweb head. Then, with very rested, multiple sets of knowing eyes, proof read that thing like its a map to the buried treasure. Proof it again and let someone who is great at editing proof it too. Make the edits as soon as possible so that those wooops parts don't go unfixed. PHS people, i can help you proof.
then, my favorite part, save that suckah! - but save it somewhere that you can find it again!!!! and don't forget to print a bunch too for scholarship applications and other useful venues (internships, jobs, speaking engagements!).
Now, how easy was that. More resume templates can be found at the other end of this link.
send me your questions and comments - or your resumes for proofing! Keep on Keepin On!
