Muhlenberg College

After a long day of college visits, we arrived at Muhlenberg College. We were greeted by a bubbly Associate Director of Admission named Alyssa Ellowitch. Muhlenberg College is a private co-ed liberal arts college. Students at Muhlenberg have a strong sense of self. They are encouraged to be a pioneers in their chosen fields.
They offer two degrees, the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts. Classes are small with a low student to professor ratio of 16 to 1. Muhlenberg College is one of the 250 selective colleges which subscribe to the Common Application. Students are also required to write an essay. Their application requires no extra supplements. Submission of SAT or ACT scores is optional but an interview is required for students who choose not to submit test scores. If there is a financial burden, Muhlenberg will waive the application fee after a phone call from the Pre-College Advisor.
Muhlenberg College is part of the Lehigh Association of Independent Colleges which provides coop programs, cross-registration and sharing of library resources to students at Muhlenberg College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College and Cedar Crest College. They offer many study abroad agreements around the world. Muhlenberg has several dual admissions programs and combined programs with several very prestigious universities. For example, in the engineering program after your freshman year, if you have a 3.5 gpa, you could be admitted to Columbia University for the masters program. You would graduate from Muhlenberg with an undergraduate degree in pre-engineering.
In recent years they have become extremely aggresive with scholarships and financial aid. Muhlenberg offers many restricted scholarships and need base work study.
As far as career services are concerned, Muhlenberg has even focused on the freshman offering summer programs for those already enrolled and entering in the fall. For upper classmen they search online data bases systems for jobs. Many companies come on campus recuiting future Muhlenberg graduates.
Muhlenberg has a new multi-cultural center. It is more than just a hang out. There is a full time director there in the center. Admissions steps in and introducing the new freshman to the center. Diversity works at Muhlenberg, all cultures work together.
As far as athletics, Muhlenberg is a Division II school, being part of the highly recognized Centennial Conference.
Fraternities and Sororities are available starting with the sophmore year.
It is important to note there are no teaching assistants, only professors.
On our walking tour they have a brand new science center and sports center.
The one thing that sticks out in my mind when I recall our visit to Muhlenberg was how all the students were out and about. Whether it was playing fresbie golf, shooting hoops or working out in the new sports center, this is a college they don't sit in their dorm room all day.
The students definitely display that tight knit sense of community so refreshing in small colleges.
